| Since family physicians pursuing careers in global health are often called upon to provide direct clinical care, teaching and leadership in resource poor communities, this fellowship is specifically designed to equip family physicians with the additional skills necessary to meet these needs. An optional second year of the fellowship involves a full year in Rwanda as a faculty member in the Rwanda Family and Community Medicine Residency Program (FAMCO), under the supervision and mentorship of US trained senior faculty members. |
The fellowship is designed for one or two years with a major emphasis on a community-oriented approach to inpatient and outpatient care of women and their children. Fellows in the two year program can obtain a Masters (MSc. or MPH) in Community Health at Brown University. The fellowship is intended for family physicians who desire intensive training in the areas of obstetrics and newborn care in order to maximize these skills for subsequent medical practice, and for those physicians interested in developing and researching coordinated MCH programs, especially for underserved populations.
